Great Add-Ins To You Morning Bowl Of Oatmeal

If you’re looking for a healthy way to start you day, one food that you must consider is oatmeal. Oatmeal is a complex carbohydrate that’s rich in dietary fiber and if you eat the regular variety, virtually sugar free as well.

The only drawback for some people is that they find oatmeal rather bland to eat, therefore turn their nose up at it on a regular basis.

Fortunately, if you’re willing to get a little creative, you can find ways to enhance its flavor and maintain its position in your diet plan.

Let’s go over some of the top add-ins to include in your morning bowl of oatmeal.


You can’t go wrong adding a few slivered nuts into your morning bowl. This will add some delicious crunch to the dish and will also boost the healthy fat content.

Almonds, walnuts, pecans, or hazelnuts will all taste great. And, if you prefer a creamier consistency, try adding some natural nut butter instead.


Seeds are the next add-in to consider. Just like nuts, these are rich in healthy fats and come in many different varieties. If you prefer something smaller than nuts, they tend to be a great fill-in.

Seeds also have just a hint of flavor, so are a great option for those who don’t want anything too strong.

Dried Coconut

Moving along, one excellent source of fat to get into your diet plan is dried coconut. Be sure to choose the unsweetened variety so that you aren’t taking in any carbohydrates with this add-in and are only getting the health promoting medium chain triglycerides that you need to promote optimal fat burning.

This form of fat is slightly different than most as it can be used immediately as an energy source for the body.

Dried Berries

Dried berries are the next add-in to consider. These are great for providing strong antioxidant power to your meal and will also rank in high in fiber as well as vitamins.

At just 50 calories per cup, they’re an easy add.


Finally, don’t overlook cinnamon. Cinnamon is an excellent addition to any bowl of oatmeal and can also slow down the glucose release into the blood stream.

So there you have the top foods that you should consider adding to your morning bowl of oatmeal. Get these in and you’ll have better nutrition because of it. 


Why Oatmeal Is A Great Pre-Workout Carbohydrate Source

 If you’re looking to get all geared up for a workout session, one food that you’ll definitely want to consider is oatmeal. Oatmeal works perfectly as a pre-workout carbohydrate source for a number of reasons.

Let’s look at why you should be considering this great addition to your diet plan.

High In Complex Carbohydrates

The first great thing about oatmeal is that it’s rich in complex carbohydrates. These are going to be vital for supplying long lasting energy that won’t leave you crashing mid-session.

The last thing you want is to experience a blood glucose low and fast acting carbohydrates will cause just that.

The one thing to note with using oatmeal pre-workout however is that you’ll want to consume it at least an hour or so before the session is about to start to ensure that you are fully fueled by the time the workout gets underway.

Low In Sugar

Next, oatmeal is also very low in sugar, so again, this helps keep your energy level on a more even keel. You can eat the oatmeal and sustain energy right through to the end of your workout, allowing you to get more work in total.

More work means faster progress, so it’s a win-win for you.

Small Dose Of Protein

Oatmeal is even going to offer a small amount of protein as well, so for those who struggle to get in enough, it serves as a great way to meet your needs.

Plus, you can simply add some additional protein powder to your oatmeal very easily to get the intake up even higher, closer to where you need it to be.

Fast And Convenient

Finally, the last big benefit to using oatmeal as a pre workout carbohydrate source is the fact that it’s very fast and convenient.  You can either microwave it in two or three minutes or if you’re really in a rush, you can actually eat it raw.

Tossing it into a protein shake serves as the ultimate pre-workout meal in a hurry, so for those who are rushing to the gym and who don’t have time to cook, this can be ideal.

So there you have the primary reasons to consider adding oatmeal to your daily diet plan for use before you workout session. Get it in and you will perform better, have more energy, and recover faster as well.

Oat Soup

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup oats
  • 5 large tomatoes, halved and sliced
  • 1/3 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 3 cups water, divided
  • 1/2 bunch fresh cilantro
  • 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon granules
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Recipe makes 4 servings

  1. Heat a large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium-low heat. Pour in the olive oil, and let it heat up. Add the oats; cook and stir until toasted.
  2. In a blender or large food processor, combine the tomatoes, onion, garlic, 1 cup of water, and cilantro. Blend until smooth. Pour into the pan with the toasted oats. Stir in the remaining 2 cups of water, and bring to a boil. Mix in the salt and chicken bouillon. Cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Enjoy hot or warm.

Mike has a great knowledge of body mechanics, muscle function and is capable of determining the individual abilities of his clients. Kettlebells are a tremendous exercise and I am enjoying the results. Mike's positive attitude is a great asset to his willingness to work with his clients at their own level and to push them to their maximum potential. Mike is alway watching technique and form during kettlebells, which is another asset to Mike being an A+ instructor.

Mike is a great trainer. There are all sorts of challenges with kettlebells.  I find his strong point is his comprehensive knowledge of the musculature anatomy of the body.  He combines that with his expertise in kettlebells and it's a terrific synthesis of a complete body work out.  He is sure to WATCH and INSTRUCT you as you perform correct form. 

I also see Mike as being attentive and willing to be flexible in his program.  He will also be considerate of any discomforts or soreness you may be experiencing.  He is understanding and considerate and he knows JUST what you are capable of.   And he pushes when he should.  That is what will make you appreciate Mike as a kettlebell expert! 

I've been with Michael Bistany only a short time and already am seeing results.  As I have had back issues for years I need to be confident in the leader of my fitness instruction and Michael has won that confidence in me.  He has adapted my exercises to meet my needs and selects workouts to target areas most important for me to strengthen first.  I look forward to an ongoing program.  Thanks, Michael!

Good afternoon, my name is Holly Makowsky. I am a middle school science teacher, with an additional Specialist Teacher of Reading license, in Lowell, MA. I am looking for ways to approach potential donors for a service opportunity I am trying to fund.

What am I trying to do? My goal is to go to the Amazon Rainforest this upcoming July with the purpose of working with students and teachers, focusing on conservation, reading and teacher development, through the Conapac Library, located in the Amazon Rainforest, 50 miles downstream from the city of Iquitos, Peru. I need to raise $1400, plus airfare. The $1400 covers lodging and food, as well as resources for the students and teachers, through the library. In fact, 75% of the cost of this volunteer opportunity goes to the library. For airfare, it could be additional monetary donations or unused and unneeded frequent flyer miles.

When coaching CEOs on best practices on how to grow their business, one question we are often asked in this economy is "how do we generate more qualified leads?"

Generating leads -- specifically qualified leads -- takes knowledge, business funding and a planned strategy.
Often when working with clients, we find that they have a silo approach to lead development and end up focusing on one type of lead generation model which they or their team members are comfortable with.

This silo lead generation approach usually fails because it limits the potential capture of new prospects to one communication medium.

Most successful lead generation programs use multiple communication which we call the "three legged stool of lead generation." The three legged stool of lead generation includes cold calling, networking and marketing. Each one of these approaches has their own budget, planned process and projected return on investment.
