Lazarus House Ministries, Inc.

 January Enews 2013

"It's amazing when you watch a light in their heart turn on as they begin to see their own self worth ... "

Eszter Vajda talks to Bridget Shaheen, Exec. Dir. Of the Lazarus House Ministries, about an extraordinary concept that helps people get out of poverty and get a job.

Eszter Vajda talks to Bridget Shaheen, Executive Director of Lazarus House Ministries, about an extraordinary concept that helps people get out of poverty and into the workforce.

"Lazarus House has grown significantly over the last few years because we wanted to answer to the needs of the community and also offer a continuum of services that would not be just a band-aid but help people move out of poverty. We have a soup kitchen and food pantry - these are our first lines of entry into Lazarus House for many of our people and it introduces them to the possibilities . . . "

Watch the interview with Bridget Shaheen and learn about the amazing programs of Lazarus House and the impact of this organization on Lawrence and the surrounding communities.

Thank you to all our Christmas volunteers and donors!

Christmas 2012

We are winding down our Christmas programs after the whirlwind holiday season and are deeply grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness!

Project Bethlehem supplies gifts to the community and because of our donor families, 15 homeless families had warmth and joy this past Christmas. Children's eyes grew bright as volunteers brought them bags of presents from our gift room.

Christmas2 2012

A woman whose family lost everything in a fire wept as we brought gifts to her, saying "The only good thing that's come out of this is how people have been so extraordinarily giving and generous."

This season Project Bethlehem served 423 families; that's more than 1500 people! Our Christmas volunteers greeted 282 donors as they dropped off gifts and also helped deliver donations to approximately 46 families living in our shelters or participating in Lazarus House programs. Thank you for exemplifying the true meaning of Christmas; we could not have done this without you! As you welcome this New Year, please know that you have made a difference.

IRS charitable rollover is retroactive for early 2012

The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 reinstated the IRA charitable rollover for 2013 and made it retroactive for 2012. For the 2012 tax year only, IRA owners can choose to report qualified charitable distributions made in January 2013 as if they occurred in 2012. Please consider such a gift to Lazarus House by January 31st! Thank you.
