Identity theft was, once again, the top consumer complaint in 2010, per the Federal Trade Commission.  I would expect the same result for 2011.  The number of Identity Theft clients that I have had to help out of this predicament has increased tremendously.  Though an arduous and time consuming task, with a little patience and tenacity successful correction is eminent. I used to be complacent about “Identity Theft”.  I don’t know if it was just the “that won’t happen to me” syndrome, or just having faith in the companies I do business with, that they would keep my information secure.  But with the recent rash of companies’ data bases being compromised, we need to start driving defensively and protect our credit.

Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America and adversely affects millions of consumers every year. It occurs when someone gets access to your personal information such as your name, Social Security number, credit card number, or other identifying information without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. The result is a credit report full of derogatory information and a resulting low credit score.

Most victims of Identity Theft spend hundreds of hours and sometimes years trying to rectify the negative credit rating and spend thousands of dollars in higher interest rates.
